Top 10 Classics for a Stylish Wardrobe

Is anyone else wondering happening with fashion in 2021?  Are you having a hard time finding something to wear?

I hit the mall for about an hour last week since our power was out for 33 hours and I needed a quick warm up.  After hitting a few of my favorite stores, I have concluded that 2021 is a year where fashion does not exist.  There were sweat outfits everywhere.  These “sweats” were not even stylish or flattering.  The colors were bland and I left thinking, what has happened to fashion?

Has the fashion industry just given up on us?  What about all of us who would like to remain both stylish and comfortable?   Wearing oversize matching sweats is not my idea of fashion.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like my cozies and loungewear just as much as the next person, but I want them to be cute and stylish.  I am not only not interested in only wearing these “work at home” outfits, I want to feel young and hip.

This got me thinking, what will I wear these next few months while my favorite brands are selling sweat suits.  I mean, these are not even cute track suits.  I could go on and on.

So as the stores are having a mid life crisis, I will be wearing the classics that I own that will stay in style for years to come.

10 Fashion Classics to Stick With

These 10 classic wardrobe staples will keep you looking fresh and stylish.  Keeping to the minimalist theme, these classics will carry you forward and keep you looking stylish.  These classics are also flexible and can be dressed up or down.  This allows you to stretch your wardrobe and your budget further.

Denim

I did name my blog after my favorite wardrobe item, you guessed it – jeans!  You just can’t go wrong with a great fitting pair of denim jeans. Skinny jeans are still in style as well as the looser, boyfriend jeans and of course the bootcut jeans.

A great fitting pair of jeans will take you from a casual afternoon with friends to a night out on the town. Both a dark rinse and light rinse are on trend and can be worn with anything.  I love to throw on tennis shoes with mine to run out for errands.  To dress them up, throw on a cute bootie or heel and off you go.

Jeans are the perfect travel item, you can wear them multiple times without washing and they do not wrinkle.

Denim Jacket

Keeping with the denim theme, you can’t go wrong with a cute denim jacket.  I prefer both an oversized and shrunken one for the different seasons.  You can pair a great looking denim jacket with a spring dress and it pulls your outfit together.

A great denim jacket can be worn year round and they tend to stay in fashion for years and years.  Focus on a classic fit with a classic wash and you can’t go wrong.

Chambray shirt

Still on the denim theme, a classic fitting chambray shirt can be worn with a great pair of slacks or skirt.  It is also great as a layer in over a dress to keep you warm on those cooler summer nights.  Just tie it at the waist and go.

I have been wearing this classic for 20 plus years and just can’t get enough of it.

Black

This may not be a wardrobe item but you cannot go wrong with black.  Black is easy to dress up or down and flexible, it goes with everything.  I love a great black turtleneck and jeans or a cute pair of black work pants.

My favorite a LBD (little black dress) can be worn anywhere and it is so flexible. Black can be worn all together for a monochromatic look or you can break it up with some fun accessories or shoes to add a pop of color.

A Classic Blazer

Some of you might be thinking, where will I wear a blazer when I am only working at home and barely going out.  Well, this stay at home thing will not continue and this classic will ensure you are ready for whatever comes your way.

A classic blazer can be dressed up for a night on the town or dressed down with jeans and sneakers to hit the mall.   A classic blazer that fits well and is good quality will last for absolutely years and you will get your moneys worth.

Loafers

Have loafers ever gone out of style?  Loafers are a perfect addition to any classic wardrobe.  I love mine and have them in all the colors. If you are looking to purchase your first pair, best to stick with a classic brown or black.  Venture out once you find your groove with loafers.

Loafers are the perfect shoe to quickly pull any outfit together.  These Sam Edelman loafers ones are classic and comfortable, a take on the classic Gucci loafer that has been around forever.  You can’t go wrong with the Gucci one either.

All White Sneakers

This is another classic that has been around for years, I have been wearing them 20 or 30 years myself.  Pairing them with a cute pair of jeans or a black dress is my absolute favorite.  All white sneakers are an all around classic.  Be sure that they are no dingy as they will lose their appeal.

You can find a great white tennis shoe just about anywhere in all price points.  Check out a few of my favorites below.

A Classic Trench

Another staple every wardrobe needs. You can throw on this classic to add warmth and pull any outfit together.  This one from         Ann Taylor just arrived and I can’t get enough of it.  I wear it with jeans (of course) and either boots or tennis shoes and I am off for the day.

For a classic look just throw on a white T-shirt, jeans and knee high boots.  This look is classic, simple and easy.

A Good Quality T-Shirt

This is what every wardrobe needs, a good quality T-Shirt.  I prefer mine in white or black and they can be worn with everything in your wardrobe.  I recommend refreshing your T-Shirts at least once a year so they do not get dingy.  You can dress them up or down and they are perfect for travel (whenever we get to do that again).

I would also add a great tank top to this category.  You can layer tanks in the winter or wear them alone on the summer.  Purchase one that can be tucked in or worn out.  This one from Old Navy is my favorite and you can’t beat the price, making it easy to refresh it often.

Leather Jacket

A great fitting leather jacket goes with just about anything.  It is something that can really elevate your look.  Black is always a great option but I love a nice brown leather.

Vegan options are great as well for those who would like something more durable.   A classic moto style or fit will last for decades and can be worn in almost any season.

Below you will find a few options of the Top 10 Classics from my post.  There are both splurge vs save options for every budget and price point.  By mixing and matching higher end items with lower end items (read my post on The Secret Art of High Low Fashion) you will create a look that is not only personal to your style but pulled together and fashionable.
