FAQs

How did you come up with your blog name?

A Girl and Her Jeans came to be after my love affair with anything denim. I’ve started a fashion blog to highlight dressing as career woman and mother. I have always loved jeans and anything denim really. My love of jeans started young, probably in middle school. Remember Guess jeans in the 80s? Every girl coveted the little triangle on the back pocket, that feeling of getting a pair of those jeans was priceless. It is probably comparable to today’s lulu shorts for teens and preteens. That passion for denim continued right through college where I went to school in Colorado. A good pair of jeans could take me from school with a hoodie to out on the town with a crushed velvet body suit. Some people say your Style evolves with age and I would agree my Denim style has been elevated over the decades, but I still love a good pair of jeans. So hence the name “A Girl and Her Jeans.”

Why did you start a blog?

Over the years I have dabbled in the Fashion industry but never found my niche. After a few life changing years recently, I have able to take a step back and evaluate what I really want with my life and where my passion is. Well aside from Fashion, I love writing and helping people. I feel a blog will give me the biggest reach and allow me to really help women of all shapes and sizes dress for success. You can look just as good in the boardroom as the park. No, you will not be wearing the same clothes but with a bit of styling you can look great anywhere. I want to show people that it is possible.

When did you love of fashion begin?

My love of fashion began as a young girl. I always liked experimenting with the latest trends and often had a style that was all my own. I had a very stylish mother who really knew how to dress. I love looking back at pictures over the decades and all her fun fashion flare she had. She always stressed that fit was the most important thing in fashion and I couldn’t agree more. I have always tried new things and been able to understand what “trends” are coming and going.

How has your style evolved?

Has my style evolved? I am not always sure it has evolved, I seem to be wearing jeans and fun top and fancy shoes with a great handbag just as I always have. But yes, it has evolved. I have focused more on fit as I age and quality over quantity. I am still working on the last one, but life is always evolving. I believe a good quality pair of jeans and shoes can make any outfit. I am also finding myself reaching for dresses more and more lately and I am trying not to wear denim every day.

How would you describe your style?

My style is casual-dressy.  Is that even a style? I like the high/low look, where you wear jeans (I know the jeans thing is getting old, isn’t it?) and a fancy shirt with nice shoes and a handbag or even a cute dress with tennies. That’s my daily look and what I feel most comfortable in.

What are your favorite brands and where do you like to shop?

I definitely like all the luxury brands out there, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior to name just a few, but who doesn’t? I just find they are not that practical for my “mom” life or my budget. I own a few nice handbags but stick to the mid-priced brands for my everyday life. A good pair of Madewell Jeans last forever while I love Joes Jeans, Paige and Hudsons as well. You will find me hitting Ann Taylor and Banana Republic for the rest. I have been guilty of shopping at Old Navy while buying my 2 little girlies clothes as of late. Old Navy is great for cute little run around dresses, a fun workout outfit or hang out clothes. Of course, Nordstrom is a great place for everything especially accessories. And don’t forget TJMaxx and Marshalls. I find budget friendly items there all the time.

What do you think are the most important fashion advice?

Fit, fit, fit. Ok I am a broken record, fit is most important in my opinion. If the clothes fit, you look younger, thinner and overall better. What girls doesn’t want all that? After making sure your clothes fit well, dress for the body you have now, not the body you want or used to have. If you have lost a bit of weight, make sure your clothes are not baggy. If you have gained weight, make sure they are not too tight. It is also important to stay relevant. You do not need to wear all the latest trends, but those leg warmers circa 1980s are probably not the thing to still  be wearing.

Tell us about your love of accessories?

My love of accessories runs deep. I absolutely love handbags. All kinds, an everyday bag or a nice little evening clutch. Jewelry is my next passion. Adding a few accessories can change an outfit from blah to amazing. My love for accessories began in college and then after when I was on a strict budget and needed to stretch each outfit a little more and create different looks with the same clothes.

What Trendy items do you love?

I like to focus on the basics and really spend my money there. A good pair of jeans with a fun trendy top is the way to go. A fun trendy necklace with a little black dress is always easy. Trends are fun to try but not always for everyone. The great thing about Trends is they come and go so one that does not quite work will just work its way out and onto the next trend.

What is your favorite pastime?

Ahh, my favorite pastime – that’s easy to answer. My favorite pastime is spending time with my sweet family. The hubs, my 2 little girlies and our yellow lab. Next is being active – skiing, biking, hiking, walking. And the one that takes the cake is being active with my family, you can’t get any better than that.

What did you do before?

Previous to my full-time blog, I was in technology sales. I loved that career and made fabulous friends in all my positions. Those gals are still some of my near and dear friends and I love catching up with them. Additionally, I loved sales. It was a challenging, always changing career with its ups and downs but I loved it. I still manage another Technology Company with customers in my local area and enjoy it as well.
